SCHOLARSHIPS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

Introduction

At it's meeting of Jan 12, Los Amigos approved a motion to establish the Los Amigos Scholarship Fund to finance six CONALEP/Prepatoria students for a full year's tuition and supplies at a total cost of 18,000 pesos per year. Funding for an additional ten scholarships was recently approved for the 2010/11 school year.

In support of the objective of the Los Amigos de La Peņita Scholarship Program, the mission is to encourage students to participate in local activities, to develop community leaders, to provide educational support to local young people and to encourage young students to participate in the Los Amigos de La Peņita organization.

Introducing the successful scholarship candidates for 2009:

Lucia del Carmen Arellano Navarro.    15 years old	"I´m currently studying in Preparatoria de Jaltemba. I love listening to music, hanging out with my friends, dancing and being with my family. I like to study because when I obtain a title, I´ll have a good job and I´ll earn good money! What I like about La Peņita is the beach. I like the sun and the morning air, in general. La Peņita is a very nice place. What I´d change about Mexico is that we keep our beaches and streets cleaner, so Mexico will become the cleanest country of the world."
Guillermo Daniel García Bravo    15 years old	"I study the 3er. semester of Administration in Conalep. I think education is very important because I want to become a lawyer. I like to read, listen to music and I practice sports. What I like about my community is that it's quiet; I also like the beach. If I have to change something I would like that the people would keep our streets clean. I like to participate in helping the community."
Carlos Maximino Aguirre Navarro.    15 years old.	"I study at Conalep. I would like to become a doctor some day I like study very much. I like sports and the beach. What I really like about my community is that is really quiet and what I like about my country is the culture, the forest and the beaches."
Paola Rosario García Brambila    15 years old	"I´m a student at Conalep. I believe education is very important to learn and to reach my goals. I like to play basketball, listen to music, and watch TV. I like my community, the good people, the beach and the vegetation; and, as for, my country I love the traditions and the liberty."
Fabian Santiago Contreras    16 years old.	"I study at Conalep, and I work after school. I want to go to University and become a doctor, so I can help lots of people. I really like sports; I run everyday, twice when I can. In my free time, I help my mom at home. What I like about my town are the green areas, the beach and the people."
Essaú Ramírez Pérez    17 years old	"Education is the most important thing for me. I study at Conalep. I want to be a famous actor; as well, I want to go to the University and also have my own company! I like studying, reading, going to school, watching TV, hanging out with friends. From my community, I like the landscapes, the weather, the beach and the people."
